Lac La Biche County Libraries Welcomes New Library Director, Maya Fisher
[Lac La Biche, Alberta] — Lac La Biche County Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Maya Fisher as its new Library Director, effective October 1st, 2024. With a robust background in library science and a passion for community engagement, Maya is set to lead the library into an exciting new chapter.
Maya joins us from her role as Librarian and Branch Head at the St. Boniface Library in Winnipeg. Fully bilingual in English and French, she successfully spearheaded French Language programming and maintained the branch's French-language collection. Maya previously contributed to policy development in areas such as data management. A lover of the arts and avid cross-country skier, Maya is eager to become part of the Lac La Biche community.
“We are delighted to welcome Maya to Lac La Biche County Libraries,” said Nancy Broadbent, Board Chair. “Her vision and leadership will undoubtedly inspire new ideas and help us continue providing exceptional services to our community.”
Maya holds a Master's degree in Information Studies from the University of Ottawa and has been working and volunteering in libraries since 2022. She is deeply committed to promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and equitable access to information. Maya looks forward to collaborating with the library's staff, volunteers, and community members to maintain a welcoming and dynamic space for all.
As Maya steps into her new role, Lac La Biche County Libraries also bids farewell to Maureen Penn, who has been an exceptional leader since 2009. “On behalf of the entire Board, I want to express our heartfelt thanks to Maureen for her years of dedicated service,” said Broadbent. “We wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.”
Since 1967, Lac La Biche County Libraries has proudly served the community and surrounding areas, offering a diverse array of services, from book lending and digital resources to educational programs, community events, and the popular Library of Things.
